About IV Hydration Therapy

A: Intravenous hydration therapy delivers a carefully crafted combination of water, saline, sugar, vitamins, minerals, nutrients, electrolytes and/or antioxidants directly to your vein via IV catheter, allowing your body to absorb them faster and better than if you were to ingest them orally. (100% absorption compared to 20% via the digestive tract.) IV hydration has been used for decades in clinical settings, but is becoming more common in private businesses like med spas.

Health and Safety

A: Yes, as long as it’s done by medical professionals using sterile equipment and infection control measures. All of Hydrafuse’s infusions are administered by licensed nurses who are trained in IV infusions. Our program is overseen by a doctor, who ensures our adherence to medical standards and contributes to the development of Hydrafuse’s treatment protocols. In addition, all new patients complete a medical history form (including prescription drugs, illnesses and surgeries) so that our team can determine whether an infusion is safe.

A: The frequency depends on the type of infusion being administered. Check our Products & Pricing page to learn about the optimum cadence for each.

A: Any side effects are typically minor, such as bruising, pain, swelling or scarring at the injection site. More serious complications can include inflammation, clotting or infection.

A: Ultimately yes, but during the intake process our healthcare team will review your current medications & conditions to determine if IV infusion is appropriate for you.

A: Yes, in some cases. This is why Hydrafuse requires new clients to complete an intake form. It tells us about your medical history and lists any prescription or over-the-counter drugs you may be taking, including vitamins and supplements. By reviewing your intake form, our medical professionals will know if our IV infusions pose potential interaction problems and proceed accordingly.

A: Yes. IV hydration therapy is not recommended for patients in heart failure or who suffer from heart disease or kidney disease, as the high concentrations of vitamins and minerals contained in infusions can be too much for those organs to handle. It can also cause bruising in patients undergoing dialysis or suffering from congestive heart failure.

A: IV hydration services must comply with state medical licensing agencies’ rules and regulations.

A: None of the substances in our infusions are on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited substances list. However, infusions exceeding 100 milliliters per 12-hour period are prohibited both in and out of competition, except in cases of hospital treatments, surgical procedures or clinical diagnostic investigations. This is because they can mask banned substances or distort the athlete’s biological passport. Please speak to your team before contacting us about an appointment.

WADA advises athletes to obtain a therapeutic use exception (TUE) for any infusion provided outside of a hospital setting. Check with your sport’s governing body for more details.

What to Expect

A: IV hydration therapy is similar to donating blood or having blood drawn. Our licensed medical professionals are skilled at finding veins and usually manage to place the IV for patients on the first attempt.

A: Because you gain hydration during the procedure, you may need to urinate more frequently in the hours following your session.

A: You should have more energy and less pain or nausea than you did before the treatment. If your infusion contains magnesium (such as our Athletic Performance Recovery formula), you may feel a bit sleepy because it relaxes your muscles.
